SMT Intelligence takes action – Fight against forced labor
Share
Cases of forced labor are found in every country and in every sector. The International Labour Organization estimates that there are approximately 27.6 million victims of forced labor worldwide, including 17.3 million in the private economy. Risks of forced labor and child labor are primarily linked to companies’ global supply chains. There is a risk that goods imported and distributed in Canada may have been produced with forced labor or child labor. Entities and federal institutions doing business in Canada have a responsibility to ensure that exploitative practices are addressed and eliminated from their supply chains.
The measures introduced under the former Bill S-211, An Act to enact the Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act and to amend the Customs Tariff (the Act), aim to increase industry awareness and transparency and encourage companies to improve their practices.
As a Canadian leader in the assembly of complex electronic circuits, SMT Intelligence commits to:
- Comply with the Canadian Act regarding forced labor and child labor covered by this report.
- Promote human rights and responsible business practices within the company and through its partners.
- Raise awareness among employees and external stakeholders regarding issues related to forced labor and child labor in the global supply chain.
- Manage risks and respond appropriately when applicable expectations and requirements are compromised.
- Submit this report to Public Safety Canada and make it accessible to the public on the website.
